Lake Braies - The pearl of the Dolomites
The idyllic mountain lake in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage site of the Dolomites in the Braies valley between Welsberg and Villabassa magically attracts many visitors every year. Lake Braies is the setting of the famous Italian TV series "un passo dal cielo" and a popular destination for mountain lovers and peace seekers.
Situated at just under 1500 m on the northern edge of the Fanes-Sennes-Braies Nature Park, the Braies Wildsee impresses with its deep blue and emerald waters and spectacular views of the pale giants of the Dolomites. You can reach the unique lake from hotel post Tolderhof in less than half an hour by car. Take a walk around Lake Braies or rent a boat for a boat tour. On hot days you can also take a dip in the refreshing water of the mountain lake. The rest areas around the Pragser Wildsee invite you to linger and picnic. The unique beauty of the Pragser Wildsee also attracted film producers to the Hochpustertal. Since 2011, Lake Braies has been the setting for the well – known Italian television series "un passo dal cielo", known in German-speaking countries as "the mountain police-very close to the sky". The series with the world-famous Italian-us-American actor Terence Hill in the leading role was a great success in Italy and has been broadcast since July 2017 on the Bavarian Radio (BR) Also in Germany. In the meantime, the series consists of four seasons, all shot in San Candido and on Lake Braies. Unfortunately, Terence Hill is only part of the series until the third season, in the fourth season he was replaced by the Italian actor Daniele Liotti.
